We received an anonymous call about one of our employees telling us that the employee is a drug abuser. We don’t know what to do?
Unless you have a random drug testing policy (many states do not allow for random drug testing policies), the best thing you can do is to watch the employee. If they are doing their job and arriving on time, figure it is someone in their personal life looking to cause trouble. If you suspect that the employee is a drug user, reference your employee handbook. It should have a clear policy on alcohol and substance use. The policy should allow you to send someone home if they are under the influence and when the return the policy will tell you if you are required to terminate them or write them up.
